What did you do to your JK today?

Installed my hood struts today. With my Jeep sitting so high, I always struggled to get the hood prop in the hole. I'm not a short dude either. I wish I would of done this sooner! Took 15 mins, a 10mm socket, 10mm wrench and a 4mm Allen wrench. The hood goes right up with zero problems now.

Replaced the radiator in Mrs. Dogs JKUR. Went with an OEM-style Duralast product from a local parts store. Also borrowed a combustion leak tester to check the head gasket since it overheated. That looked fine. Ran a compression test and showed 120-130 PSI. Not bad at all for a 195,000 mile engine. Being anal retentive about maintenance pays off.

I'm going to be on the radiator list here soon. Caught a whiff of coolant when I got home from work. I can see dried up purple residue on the driver side of the radiator. Must of been doing it for some time now 😒 Do I go all aluminum or OEM style? I got 100,000 miles less than you @Dirty Dog

I couldn't convince myself that the added expense of an aluminum radiator was worthwhile, and I'm pretty easy to talk into upgrades.

Riiiight!? I just can't talk myself into an all aluminum one. So I was looking at a Mishimoto OEM style. I was talking to a rep at a Jeep event I was at. They have a lifetime warranty on their radiators. I'm thinking $174 isn't bad?

tried an aluminum from Cold Case early last year . Bonus is it holds more fluid than stock which will help keep temps under control .
Bad news after 2 Nd wheeling trip it developed a leak where tank meets the tubes .
The all aluminum rads with welded tanks are too rigid for off road . The standard rads use an o ring to seal the tank to rest of radiator .
That o ring provides a bit of give or flexibility . An all welded radiator is so stiff that when you flex the Jeep something will let go.
The upper rubber mounts purposely kept a bit on the loose side and didn’t help .
Sadly Cold Case didn’t honour warranty either .
If someone was to come out with an all aluminum rad but with the tanks attached with o ring . They would be on to something . .
Do some googling and you will see its just not a Cold Case issue

Read many negative reviews about mishimoto & Jeep’s when I researching rads .
Buyer Beware

What did you end up going with after Cold Case?

I wanted to go OEM but at the time a couple dealers I phoned here said 2-3 months ?
Mopar Canada online read non in stock ?
I didn’t install Cold Case till about March cause lousy weather . The leak wasn’t crazy bad so topped up about once a week till I decided on a Spectra off of Amazon .
It’s good on HWY for a couple hours and slower speeds all day on the trail . BUT I tested yesterday cause driving to Edmonton next Sat to visit daughter for a few days .
About 12 hours straight threw the Rocky Mountains so a good test for a cooling system . Anyways drove up the island for about 4 hours on the HWY.
Checked a couple times and the resevoir was filling up a bit . Not completely but enough to cause temp gauge to fluctuate a bit just when I wax getting back home .
I read some reviews before purchase and yesterday kinda confirmed what I read . It looks identical to OEM but don’t think there are as many cooling bars as factory .
When pushed on HWY for hours it will start to over heat a bit . So on my road trip will just take a couple longer breaks to let things cool down . Part of the problem could be the bracket that hold trans fluid cooler . It blocks a fair amount so going to trim that up this week .
If available I would go OEM.
When I get back going to order one for myself . Hopefully more readily available. than last year . Searching on many forums OEM seems to be the overall consensus

Spent sometime exploring a few side trails from where I was last week. This long ,steep & rough in a few areas was awesome . Thought it would loop around and join up with main FSR but turned into an in & out . Ton of fun . One of my favs .
