Mounted a backup camera above the spare on a pedestal that came with the Smittybuilt tire carrier. The pedestal was designed for a third brake light but they're not required in Florida so I thought to mount the camera there. I had originally thought to get the Wolfbox rearview mirror setup as I was concerned that adding a spare would block the view out the back. Well, turns out I can see traffic behind me over the spare just fine. So, I just decided to hook up a regular backup camera to the existing wiring leading to the head unit.
Aaannnd....it's not going to work. The camera can't see over the spare enough to view the front of a parked car behind me. It would work fine as a rearview mirror camera. I can't mount the camera on the very top with the little camera bracket underneath the camera because then the image is upside down. You can't take the camera off the bracket and turn it around because the mounting holes don't line up.
So now I'm looking at a camera mount that fits behind the spare and has the camera peeking through the rim. I'm concerned that the holes in my rim might be too small or won't line up. We'll see.
