We took Thor for a drive over Lavita Pass and Wolfcreek Pass to see the fall colors. Spent the night in Pagosa Springs. We decided not to get in the hot springs because the sulfur smell is SO strong.
Heading home we decided to drop by the Great Sand Dunes and actually use 4WD to come over Medano Pass. Good choice. Lovely as always.

Upcoming weeks may be a bit busy. We're planning to take both Wranglers down to Medano Pass and the sand dunes again on Oct 12th. The thing is, we're not sure WHICH Wranglers. If we can agree on price, I might be trading my JK for a 392 JL. We will still have her JK, of course. I'm just fed up with the lack of power climbing the passes. Maybe I'm spoiled by the Vette, but it annoys me to spend so much time in 3rd gear climbing.

We reached agreement on the purchase, so this week we're driving Thor down to Dallas and trading him for a 2023 Wrangler Rubicon 392 with 11K miles. 4" lift with King 2.5 reservoir shocks. 37x13.5x17 Toyo Open Country MTs on KG1 beadlocks. Motorbilt bumpers, fenders, and fender liners. KS Gravity 8 light LED bar. Warn 10K winch. Rock lights. I'll post pictures once I get them.

Frankly, the 392 is the thing that sold me. I love our JK's, and we're keeping hers, but every time I do a road trip over one of our passes I get annoyed at the amount of time my M6 spends in4th. Or 3rd.

Today was to install a fine mesh screen behind the grill, ahead of the radiator. In hopes it will be enough to deflect rocks, etc from this oncoming winter. Always seems to that one rock that gets thrown up in the air when you get passed. Too bad I can't get one for the windshield.

We’ve had the absolute worst luck with windshields the past few years.

Replaced the original in my Charger because it was hazed a bit, then 2 weeks later a huge rock chip in the new one.

Replaced the JK only for my brother-in-law to pop it with a surfboard within a week.

Upgraded to the Gorilla glass and took a rock within a week… luckily it was only a really small scratch.

Most recently we got blasted by a sandstorm & peppered it w/ gravel from a sagebrush root.

I was quoted a crazy amount by a local shop, to add their protective film, but then I found a version online that goes on much like window tint, which they claim adds a significant amount of chip protection.

I’ll see if I can find the link.

Did a bit of checking, mostly YouTube. Looks like people who have used this are generally happy with it's performance. Couple people took a more DIY route with cheap PPF. The only real negative I noticed is that it's not terribly durable. Generally needs replaced in 6 months - 2 years. I suspect that longevity is directly related to the skill of the installer.

My windshield currently is chip and crack free, but I live rurally and we get snow, sometimes a lot. And the highway district will spread sand/gravel at key intersections. I can see a clear vinyl wrap type of windshield covering could help with chips.

My '48 CJ2A's windshield is cracked all over, but I think it adds character to it. I kind of hate seeing the old flat fender jeep restored to better than new condition. they will never be used as a jeep.

My pickup's windshield is cracked as well, I got a rock chip right behind the rearview mirror and didn't catch it until crisscrossed the windshield.
