What did you do to your JK today?

So post re-gear the shop sent me an unsolicited estimate on repairs they recommended. They suggested I replace the oil cooler, plugs, and valve cover gaskets.


Parts price are reasonable.

6.5 hours @ 139 doesn’t seem too terrible but it’s $1,600 or so. After the regear that sucks

I don’t think it has. I bought it with 88K miles on it. I’ve put a few K on it but not many.

What year? The upgraded the newer JK's. You can tell by looking. If you see aluminum it's upgraded.

Another quote for rear axle seals and bearings. That does seem like a straightforward DIY job. Hell I could go with chromoly for what labor costs.

I believe the 2016 got the factory upgraded cooler.

Looks like the upgrade to bolt in chromoly from Revolution is $775. But a little down on the priority list.

Or are they just recommending these things as preventative maintenance?

They wanted ~$450 to do axle seals and bearings, $1,600 for oil cooler, spark plugs, and valve Cover gaskets, and $500 for rear brakes and shoes.

I’ll get the chromoly to fix #1, bbk to fix #3, debating about #2.

Get a small electric pressure washer for $300, keep it nice and clean. That way the shop does not notice the leaks.

Installed a second fire extinguisher at my feet. The DV8 bracket is well made. We had a brake caliper on another JKU last trip out hang and catch fire on the way back to the campground. Luckily my brother didn't have his top on and was able to grab his quickly. Mine was under my TrekTop.

Also swapped out the Poison Spyder license plate bracket for a Motobilt one. Everything else on it is Motobilt and the PS was driving me nuts being different.

I'm not a fan of them. I work in the industrial fire protection world. I've done a ton of research on them.
