Transmission stuck in park

I was hoping to view a permanent fix. C’mon, there must be a Jeep wizard out there, who’s had this fault and resolved it successfully. This is a good thread for the community, so let’s hope someone comes through.
One of the hardest things now is the lack of access to related wiring diagrams, that is unless you have a dealer spec’d diagnostic unit.

2WD 09 JK automatic. Same issue. I’m stuck at work now waiting for a ride scouring the internet. I realize this thread is from February but hoping someone will come through.

I've been dealing with the same issue for over a year. 2012 jeep wrangler rubicon unlimited. I can go into drive reverse the only gear it reads is neutral. But every other gear is "Park" there's 1 permanent low voltage code. I've replaced the battery 4 times. I was also told to replace the app sensor. I bought a new gas pedal which didn't fix the problem. Nobody in florida seems to know what the problem is.
What’s an APP sensor?

Can’t believe this post is still open and unresolved. Did Frankjank148 & TwiztedJezter trade up for a Toyota instead? Maybe worth looking at auto transmission forums or Mercedes’ via the net, with better skills than I and see if anything comes up.

Still on the case with this issue I see, as this notification just arrived via the forum.
Has anyone undone the multi-pin transmission socket and looked inside for leaking oil seals which transfer oil up through the wiring loom if they're leaking, or looked to inspect for damaged or corrosion on the male and female terminals of same socket?

Just a thought🤔 good luck either way. 🇦🇺

Has anyone resolved this issue? I have a 2014 Jeep Wrangler sport with the 3.6 engine. While driving, just like the first poster said, the transmission slips out of drive into neutral and back. Or I can pull over to the side of the road. Put it in neutral back in the drive and get home. I'm having the interlock issue too, almost all the time. The shifter is stuck in park unless I flip the key six or seven times. Every 6 or 7th time I'm able to get it from Park and down into the gears. I'm not seemed clear resolutions on the internet. I'm hoping everyone that has reported this issue here has found a way forward. Please share if you have. I replaced the brake switch and that did not help. There seems to be no repeatable way to make it work. I've checked with doors. Open doors closed, wiggling wires, keeping the key depressed while turning. So frustrating.

Update. I've replaced the shifter with a used one found on eBay. Will keep you posted. I'm crossing fingers because to do this. I disconnected the negative battery cable. When I did that last time the shifter solenoid worked several times in a row, but the next day the problem reappeared. Reappeared. So I think it will take at least a day maybe longer to confirm that replacement of the shifter is a resolution. I'm still getting the u0404 code and it is marked permanent. I've tried erasing the code but it will not go away. Will keep you all posted.

Yoyojeep: I'm happy to report that replacement of the whole shifter resolved my issue. The ebay link to the shifter I bought is https://www.ebay.com/itm/1165359640...pid=5337789113&customid=&toolid=10001&mkevt=1 . This video by realfixesrealfast helped me the most. I think it applies to a shifter in a dodge but it was very helpful, and just about spot on:
. Other tips: the bottom silver ring of the stick shift knob can be popped down using a small screwdriver to start the pry followed by pressing in a trim tool. when that ring is popped down the knob can be easily pulled. I used a strap wrench to rock the 4x4 knob back and forth sideways which loosened it up enought to pull. it took a log of effort on the rocking back and forth, Of course. use wheel chocks and put the sticks in neuttral to wiggle out the console tray. The whole console does not need to be removed. Just hte top part and the cup holders. Do unscrew all four console bolts as rocking the console was needed to get to all four of the shifter module bolts. Hope this helps!

I see the youtube link I tried to link to doesn't show in my reply above. Look for Shifter won't move by realfixesrealfast on YouTube.

Thank you. I have already replaced my shifter and still coming back intermittently… i can literally see the gears light on the dashboard blinking on and off, then engine light comes on « No communication with gear shift module ». I must have a power issue somewhere but to locate is not so easy. I was thinking of changing the TIPM because when i switch off and on the ignition multiples times the issue disappear…so annoying ! I have a 2018 Jk with only 15k miles 😢

I had that intermittent issue too. A lot of weirdness. The shifter replacement resolved them all. I called Mark at Wranglerfix. He was very helpful. He checked alldata and talked me out of flashing the ecm. He said to either replace the shifter or the tcm. I went with shifter obviously. So I guess that's the other tip, that is to check alldata. I've learned it's a great resource. Also there is an app called MECH AI recommended by Scotty Kilmer. Just ask it a complex question and it comes back with some interesting results. Best of luck to you! Sorry about all those issues on your new jeep. If you're in this forum, you're already on a great path to resolution.
