Does anyone use a Boss radio in their Jeep?

Look at replacing the factory 730N radio. The Jeep has the Alpine with subwoofer speaker system. System for sound is fine to me, but the radio is acting up and does odd things. Crutchfield seems to have a fair amount of “Boss” radios at a decent price, but I don’t know much about them. Do any of you have experience with them? I want the radio to have CarPlay. Prices of radios aren’t too bad but add in all the hardware etc, it starts adding up. Radio does not need a backup camera feature. Thank you in advance.

I don't know anything about that brand, but I have installed THESE in both our Rubicons. Less than $300, nothing extra to buy, supports Apple/Android/Bluetooth, steering wheel controls, etc. Worth looking at.

Thank you @Dirty Dog a few follow up questions.

1. So it came with all hardware for the alpine amp and steering wheel controls? Not too concerned about UConnect.
2. What stock radio did you have? I assume It fit in the same open nicely?
3. How long have they been installed?
4. You connect with Android or iOS?
5. I suspect the memory size is for apps to be installed on them?

Thank you.

Did some research into Boss audio as was considering a new
head unit myself . Pretty good gear from what I've read .
I have this saved in my shopping list on Amazon for when
the time comes. You just have to double check to make sure
it comes with brackets etc. But you mentioned Crutchfield so
I would just ask them what else is needed for install.

@Dirty Dog if you don’t mind could you post of couple of pictures? I‘ve seen a few floating units and I am wondering how they look installed.

It's literally plug and play.
2. What stock radio did you have?
We both had the RHR 730 N.
I assume It fit in the same open nicely?
No. It's got a 10.1" touchscreen, so there's no way it could fit the tiny OEM opening. It clips into the OEM spot, but extends towards the rear of the Jeep a little, so it can flare out in all directions. It partially obstructs the view of the front power window switches, but that's mostly due to angles. I'm 6'1". A shorter person would find the view less obstructed. It does not interfere with operating the switches at all.

There are options for flush mounting the same or similar units. They cost $1200 or more. I actually prefer this, in part because I am a tinkerer. I rarely have to actually unbolt the dash any more. I can grab the head unit, pop it out, and access most everything in the top-center dash. I have even passed wires with the dash in place.
3. How long have they been installed?
Since September.
4. You connect with Android or iOS?
Yes. I personally use iOS, but we have a rather large family, and there are heathens in the family who use Android.
5. I suspect the memory size is for apps to be installed on them?
Yes. It's actually an Android tablet itself, so anything you can do on your tablet or phone, you can do on it. I've got BlueDriver and JScan on ours, as well as a number of different map apps.
Thank you.
Happy to help.

Thanks a lot, still researching on my end, it’s what I do. We use iOS too here so good to know it interfaced well with Apple. I hadn’t thought about Jscan being able to be displayed on the unit. Does it connect via wireless or hardwire? Looks wireless from the picture above.

Guess this unit doesn’t float, I was thinking it did. Thanks again.

It has Bluetooth, but I connect my iPhone via wire. You just can't see it because I'm anal about cables flopping around my interior. I brought the USB port down through the inside of the dash and put a notch in the dash panel with the net pocket (which I replaced with a rigid pocket). I plugged in a short, 6" USB cable. Just enough to plug in the phone and drop it in the pocket.

Here's a shot from further to the side. It does float, but it's not crazy about it.

Looks great! Thanks for the additional pictures and info. Makes two of us about wires, right now I have a USB cable rounded from the center console, down under the gearshift area, under the dash, up the drive side and then along the windshield area. There is about 6” visible to the phone mounT spot.

Crazy! Use my Rubi to get away from the World. 6 cd changer and a good antenna. Guess everyone is different 😂 yabba dabba Doo!! 🍺
You do realize that the CD changer is just the old man version of streaming, right? Except that we get navigation as well. :)

And I'm not totally sure, but I think if you still use a CD changer, you're required by law to wear black socks with sandals and scream "GET OFF MY LAWN" at the neighborhood kids.

First post! Saw this thread and thought id share.

I just installed the Boss BE9ACP-C with the floating head unit in our 2017 JKU. I will say that it's pretty sweet as you can adjust the height up/down, and of course swivel it. It also has a surprisingly clear and responsive screen and the menu/settings are super simple to navigate. The sound is noticeably better as well, and it has the Alpine system. The first unit had a bad rear cam input and Crutchfield sent a replacement right away. I used Crutchfield and also payed the 25 bucks for the ready harness service which makes it pretty much plug and play. I had to run the Bluetooth mic cord and the wires and video cable to the back for the cam, but it was no problem. I'd give the radio a 7/10 so far, but can't recommend Crutchfield enough! It comes with everything needed and the tech support, shipping, and communications with those guys were outstanding! I don't think you'd be dissapointed. But if you were, Crutchfield has a 60 day no questions asked return policy (which I have used on other equipment purchases with zero issues). Give it a shot!

Thank you for the input. I just pulled the trigger and ordered the exact same setup without the camera. I also paid the $25 to have the wiring harness all assembled, I just didn’t want to fiddle with it. Any chance you can post a couple of pictures of the install?

I didn’t do the camera as I‘ll be installing a rear view mirror, the same unit that @Dirty Dog has, it all sitting here. I’ve got two of them for each of our Jeeps and the hardwire kit arrived the other day. They will be a Santa Gift!
