What did you do to your JK today?

Removed the shifter and carefully cut off the notched end and ground the shaft down to 12mm and used a die to cut M12 1.5 threads. Wife ordered this shifter knob. Took a come along to get the transfer case knob off. Damn that thing was on there. Broke a ratchet strap. Two 2x6s above with the...

    What jack for oversize tires?

Bottle jack for sure. I carry a HF aluminum 2 1/2 ton floor jack with a 911 Racing big tire conversion. Little heavier. Little bulkier. Hell of a lot more stable and safe. -Mac

    Alternator & Winching

Observe the duty cycle of your winch. That's the best way to keep em alive. Snatch blocks for two or three line pulls for mechanical advantage and to get enough rope off for first or second row pulls. I have a yellow top. Wish I didn't. Capacity doesn't seem to be there. Get a decent AGM...

    2 door minimalistic rack

We're running the Washington BDR in July after a week on Vancouver Island. Wife wanted a rooftop tent and I found a decent deal on a Tuff Stuff Trailhead tent that allegedly weighs around 150 lbs. Here's the problem...just about every roof rack I see available has a weight capacity of 150 to...

    Quality thermostat replacement?

Also entirely possible the shop completely fucked up and no thermostat will fix the issue. I think I would be doing a combustion gas test on your radiator. -Mac

    NSG370 shift knob

2012 JK with the 6 speed...stock knob...only way we've found to keep it on is RTV. Think I'm going to tap and die the knob rather than weld a bolt on. Any suggestions for a common thread pitch for lots of aftermarket options? Any efficacy to shortening the stick? -Mac

    Quality thermostat replacement?

Motorad is the OEM for Mopar thermostats. Try Stant if you're not having luck with Mopar. What's the actual problem and why do you think the thermostat is toast? Perhaps you just needs good flush with some thermocure? -Mac

Buying A Winch Bumper Off Of Amazon?

I don't trust Anything I buy on Amazon. Most of the parts are fakes. If you're looking for looks on a bargain go for it. Now...that being said I did buy a synthetic rope and hawse on Amazon...the red rope turned pink, the black hawse turned brown and bent. I wouldn't risk a bumper.... If you...

P06DD after Dorman oil cooler install

Ok...Jeep hemorrhaging oil down the back of the transmission. Round 2...ordered a Dorman from O'Reilly's. Dorman on left. GooPool center. Original Mopar on right. GooPool casting is noticably lighter than the Dorman. Dorman is stamped made in the USA. Dorman cap mentions the conversion to the...

What did you do to your JK today?

Well the Goopool oil cooler went from leaking worse than the original Mopar plastic one to absolutely hemorrhaging oil. Will be calling all the parts stores here in a bit trying to find the Dorman I thought I was ordering from Amazon but didn't...

    Whining noise from transmission

Drain some fluid from both...I like using cheap coffee filters...see which one has glitter or chucks. You might get away with draining the fluid, dropping the transmission pan, replacing the filter, flushing the cooler and filling it up with fresh fluids. -Mac

    Ham Radio Antenna Mount?

Yeah that laser cut cnc bracket and powder coating is top notch! But...hey...points for fabricating something that clearly works and gets the job done. Even bent that angle iron just right. -Mac

    77KICK10 - what's the SPL?

Gave my wife the task of picking out speakers for her Jeep...suggested a component set for the front...explained SPL and said we wanted a low 90s number for good efficiency. I picked out a couple of kicker and polks...she ordered two sets of 77KICK10 and some Rockford Fosgate R1TS tweeters...

Dana 30 3.73 front axle housing

You'll find D30 JK takeoffs all over CL and FB. Usually pretty cheap. I'd find a reasonably priced one and it should be a bolt on replacement. Me personally I'd pull it apart, replace the inner axle seals and hubs and inspect and clean everything. Gotta watch for bent axles too. -Mac

What did you do to your JK today?

Editing videos from yesterday...screen grab from breaking a HF strap on a double line pull in heavy wet snow...and we use shackles here...hard or soft. Wanted a replacement from Factor 55 but $105 is a hard sell. Bought 2 x 20' from Rhino not USA for $50. -Mac

Can you retain factory lockers with new gear sets?

I bought a bent 08 Rubicon D44 for next to nothing. Harvested the factory locker and shafts, plopped them in a G2 housing with a Yukon 5.13 gear set and the Dana 30 outter Cs, brakes etc. Replaced the unit bearings, pads and rotors, seals etc. Tossed in on my '12 JK with a relay and switch in...

P06DD after Dorman oil cooler install

Yeah well that was an idiot move. I trust Dorman. Goopool? Really? Probably and most likely the same factory making the Dorman units is sending their own out the back door. Hopefully these aren't ones that failed a QC inspection. -Mac

P06DD after Dorman oil cooler install

Well that's a great question...I assumed I ordered a Dorman. I searched for the Dorman on Amazon. I swear I ordered a Dorman...but I guess I didn't...so go figure...and yes putting the 14-17 model year filter solved all the code issues.
