Squirrels chewing small hose going to gas filler area. What is it?

It's probably the fuel tank vent for when the fuel gets put into the tank, it helps get the air out so the tank will fill.

The small hose is chewed totally apart with about 4 inches totally gone. It looks as if was connected to something there in that area. That make sense?

Just find a piece of rubber hose that will slip over it and a couple hose clamps and you should be good to go.
This- just go to Lowe's in the plumbing section where they sell a pretty decent variety of hoses and tubing by the foot. Measure the outside diameter of the existing hose and buy a length with the corresponding inside diameter and you should be good to go.

Ended up going to O’Reilly’s and getting a fuel line splice kit. Works well!
Thanks for the help!!

If you have an OBD reader you may find a code related to the EVAP emmission control system. There is normally a line running from the tank forward to in front of the catalytic converter somewhere, where fuel vapor can be combusted when the vehicle is running. It limits your gasoline evaporation loss to the air.

Yes, that was an issue I had a while back when the squirrels chewed the hose from the gas tank to the charcoal canister. It kept throwing a code. Got that and the others fixed. Picture attached of that hose they chewed.

Earlier this year they chewed my gas line. Wife comes in from the store with gas pouring out from underneath. Picture attached!

I was thinking about this earlier today so did some googling .It looks like rodents like the taste of rubber ? Who would of thunk .If hose is big enough they will also look for a place to nest . Vehicles that aren't daily driven are more suseptable to this kind of thing . There's is a solution to keep them away . Fox Urine . No joke . Here is a link explaining . https://www.thriftyfun.com/Preventing-Rodents-From-Chewing-on-Your-Cars-Fuel-Line.html
Good luck and hopefully last time you have to deal with this .

Thanks for your response! I’ve tried fox urine and it seems to help. It is a pain spraying it underneath the jeep but anything to keep them away!

Rather than spraying . Maybe if you kept open bottle under the Jeep when parked . I would think that would keep them away and saves tha hassle of trying to spray all the hoses etc. Just an idea.
