I vaguely remember this coming up in a different thread... was it you that I was talking to about the better static pressures of a single 17" fan?? In any case, the kydex is a good idea and I may have to order some to make mine!
Assuming we're talking about coolant temps, 210-220°F is entirely expected and "normal", with sustained temps of ~230°F being completely normal during hot weather, traffic, etc., Even peaks ~240°F when towing on long, sustained grades are also normal.
Many will disagree (based on their experiences from when the time that pagers were popular), but nearly every oil manufacturer states that modern oils are fine at 260°F (assuming they're changed at recommended service intervals) and that heavy oxidative stress doesn't kick in until ~300°. There are also plenty of high performance cars that routinely see sustained oil temps of ~280°F (Corvettes, Mustang GTs, 911's, etc, and most track-prepped cars:
).
I wouldn't even bat an eye at 225°F and that's a perfect trans temp for nearly any modern Auto Trans!
