Which winch?

Looking at replacing my winch. Jeep came with one, can’t tell brand but no cable, and no remote... I’ve narrowed down to a WARN VR EVO. Now, should I go with the 8,000 or just go big and get the 10,000? I was also looking at the Smittybilt Gen 2 XRC with 9,500. Any input? FYI 2007 JK 2 door, live in South Florida.

You'll never pull anything heavier then your Jeep so why would you want the bigger ones?

I have no idea which winches are the best, I took the winch off my Jeep when I bought it and sold it. Then I have 2 portable winches I made that I can use on any of my 3 trucks. The steel front bumper added enough weight without carrying a winch that i'd probably never use.

I have the Smittybilt Gen 2 XRC I`ve used it a couple of times seems to work well. The wireless option is nice. Now you could always put a jib crane on the front.

I have a harbor freight apex 12k badlands. It is one of the big wins from HF. The quality is there and it is about a quarter the price of a very comparable Warn.

So what type of portable did you go with? I don't like the one car aspect of a mounted winch and as you say I could use it on my jeep or my Frontier or even pulling stuff like loading my adv bike into my truck bed.

I gotta say the Apex 12k winch is great!! Pulls the HECK out of whatever I hook on with no troubles. Yes I bought it at Harbor Freight, and yes the name isnt as fancy as Warn, or Smittybilt, but the machine just works, very well. Plus as a bonus I bought a lift with the money I saved.

Everybody's winch is the best,.....Just ask them

i have Smittybuilt on mine, just picked up my wife JK Sahara today, if we put a winch on it I think I’ll try the Harbor Freight Badlands winch and see which works out the best! Figure we go out we will have two winches to choose from.

Different strokes for different folks 🤷🏻
Fair nuff. Someone reminded me recently that you can't pull more than you weigh so no need going extra. Reliability to me is a key factor too and I'm sure for a grand that mofo is reliable. Ya get what ya pay for more (mostly).
