What is the trick to releasing the pressure on the belt? I have a 1/2” breaker ball trying to loosen but it won’t budge

Are you going the right way in trying to release it?
Maybe it's froze up, cut the belt off and then buy a new tensioner and belt probably needs them anyway unless you've replaced them recently.

Hey Steve the tensioner may be froze like Blk said maybe so plaster on it.. but the water pump is another issue .it's almost guaranteed you will break a few of those small bolts been the there and done that tip 1 is to heat each bolt and remove it one at a time..if the bolt breaks hammer a 3/16th socket on it and while heating it work it free with a small socket wrench ...b4 you attempt the waterpump there are some great videos on you tube..good luck man
