Ignition Power Source

Looking for an EASY spot to tap into 12 volt ignition power. (2015 JK Sahara) Are any of the pins on the OBD port powered on with the key. That is easy to get to but the diagrams I find aren't clear if any are ignition circuits. Tried pin 3 but no pwer there. The power outlet on the dash and in the console are options but tough to get to. Needed for very low current drain pilot lights on a couple of switches. TIA

Yes there is power to the OBD port when the key is turned on. I am not sure if its all of them or just specific ones. An easy way to find out is get a tester light like this and test each port. I have one similar except it shows the voltage in lieu of a light.

You can get one in the fuse box, just use a relay so you can pull battery volts.

That would work but you still need an ignition circuit to control the relay, don't need all that just 12 volts but only when they key is on. Thanks!

Right you'll get your ign source from the fuse box.

I have both test lights and a meter, just don't want to cause any damage. The resistance across a test light is very low, too close to a short to start running across pins connected to the computer. Thanks!

Add something like these to your cigarette/power outlet or other circuit that doesn't usually draw much current.
There may be a live empty slot in the fuse box that your model doesn't use.

I would not mess with ECU or OBD circuits, seems that could get scary.
