Coolant type issue

2008 Wrangler jk 3.8 Sahara. Bought the Jeep used. Coolant is a little low and I want to buy a gallon. Problem is, I don’t know what type coolant the previous owner put in the engine. From what I read, it’s a no no to mix coolant types. Do I really have to completely flush my system and start over ?

What color is the coolant?

I heard there is a type of coolant that will mix with any type of coolant. But when in doubt i'd just flush and put whatever you want in it.

I have the same issue on my 2015 if and when I need to add coolant. I think for topping off if and when needed just I’ll just use the universal coolant that works with HOAT and OAT coolant types.

The universal type. Read the label. You can mix it with OAT, HOAT, or the old green stuff.

That's the coolant I use . Prestone also makes
100 percent concentrate . Mix yourself 50/50
with distilled water .
