Driving down the road I hear lots of noise from the back trunk area and then I heard a loud pop. Looking in to the trunk I saw the passenger side gas strut popped off the window and the drivers side was also close. Seems like the window mount they use twists in place and causes the strut to popoff. Does anyone have tricks to keep them on or a quick fix? I already took off the clips and tried to tighten it and straightened the mount but still popped off.

I reached out to support and the only thing they told me was to buy a new $700 window and that the problem was fixed. After spending $2300 why am I finding out it needs a $700 upgrade to work as advertised?

Geez... no good answers for you, but hearing issues like this with aftermarket hardtops (or hybrid tops like this) are exactly why I stick to OEM. I've somewhat recently almost picked up a DV8 Slantback but after seeing complaint after complaint, and unresolved issue after issue, I changed my mind.

Out of curiosity, how old is the top?

Bestop is the OEM though.

That being said, for a $2000 soft top hybrid, they better support his ass.

Not the same vehicle, but I had a best top on my 16 Tacoma which did not fit properly when I tried to install and they sent me an entire new main top free of charge. This was a couple of years ago, but maybe try a different associate to speak with if possible.
I would, just me, not modify anything from the way the instructions detail installation so you can get support; if you change things they may not warranty or work with you.
Can you just return the whole thing as defective?

Hey Im a little late to this conversation but I have the same issue on my 2010 2 door JK. I contacted Bestop support and got the exact same answer, buy a new window.

The top was on the jeep when i bought it a year ago, so im not certain how old it is, but besides the strut issue, it is in great shape with no signs of wear and tear. Of course, no warrenty as a second hand owner.

Just wanted to see if you had any luck with a solution?
Thanks!

Nope, I tried a couple more times with different support people and got the same answer, "buy a new window". Too bad for me is guess. I won't be buying Bestop anything and at first I was really surprised at how tight and quiet the softtop was going down the road but now its floppy just like the one it replaced.

For now I took the struts off and think they could probably be replaced by a softer strut I just don't really need them to stay up for now and $80 is kinda steep for the replacements I found.

OEM design* :)

And agreed...

Wish I had better news. I reached out a couple times and decided to remove the struts instead of paying $700 more for something that should just work. Sounds like they knew about the issue and decided not to recall the bad product and replace hardware or at least give some sort of discount.

Oh well
