    Exhaust cross member heat shield

Yes it would. As Dirty dog said, it’s on the top side. My concern is without it, if it may cause the ATF to get hot or not cool as well. The cross member sits about 2” is front and slightly lower than transmission pan.

What did you do to your JK today?

When I was semi-trailer mechanic (late 90’s) I was very selective of their products and what I would buy there. Never bought power tools, air tools etc. was always stuff like sockets etc. that I may need. Fast forward I think they have better stuff now. I am still selective but have had a...

    Exhaust cross member heat shield

That is a good idea. I cut the old off so he would have it in he wanted someone to weld it back on and not have to buy one. I will recommend it to him. We will need to cut it as the new system is in two parts and there is a clamp at the cross member. But it will deflect most of the heat...

    Exhaust cross member heat shield

Thank you for the info. I am giving the kid ideas, it’s his Jeep. I agree I’d pay someone to tack weld it on. I’d try but I’m not the greatest welder and done want to mess up his new system.

What did you do to your JK today?

We finished up the boys new catalytic convertor install today. Overall it went smooth. Kids though. 1. Had to drop the transmission cross member mount to get the new one installed. He is life “I don’t want to drop it, too much work”. I am like “it’s four bolts, two each side. You are going...

    Exhaust cross member heat shield

Thanks. They did cross my mind to use the wrap. I don’t know anything about it causing the pipes to rust. At least CA is not as prone to rusting issues from weather. I know rust from water etc yes but it may be slower to rust being in CA.

    Exhaust cross member heat shield

Oh yes we go four wheeling. The heat shield is on top though so function for off roading. It goes between the exhaust and the automatic transmission.

    Exhaust cross member heat shield

Replacing my son’s catalytic converters. The existing system has a heat shield on the cross member. The new one does not and comes in two pieces and joins up at the Y into the exhaust pipe to the muffler, so certainly need to install it all then have the heat shield welded on. Do any of you...

What did you do to your JK today?

Picked up the wife’s JKU today, service contract is being billed $4,950. Here are few pictures of the camshafts, and one of the rockers. In the one you can see the grove on the side, on the other you can see the wear marks. On the rocker the roller isn’t visible, I think this is worse one...

Tough Trail Day and Fender Recommendations?

I’ve hit the fenders a few times and am glad they were plastic. One got hole punched in it, the other one just flexed some. I prefer that option than possible body damage. But there are a lot of metal fenders used, including my wife who wanted a set. I do think in general the metal fenders...

    Tire repair trail kit?

This is pretty handy. I’ve often wondered what I would do if a valve stem broke. Well change the tire, but this would be much simpler and still keep my spare available. Bookmarking this page to order a set in the near future.

Catalytic convertor replacement on 07 3.8

There are 4 of them. Well at lease I count each as a cat, maybe the pair in each side is one. I am not sure why the difference is between a CARB certified cat and typical cat.

Catalytic convertor replacement on 07 3.8

I am sure he could have, but in CA we have special rules and replacement cat’s have to be CARB certified (not sure exactly what the difference is, other then cost) and they have to have the executive order (EO) engraved on the cat’s. By law the inspection place is supposed to check and if the...

Catalytic convertor replacement on 07 3.8

@BLACKJKU well they better be! Cost the poor kid $2,600 for CA CARB compliant cat’s. They said OEM replacement, have the EO number stamped / engraved on them. He also bought all four new o2 sensors to install. He took time off Labor Day weekend, so we will install them then. Actually...

Catalytic convertor replacement on 07 3.8

So in case anyone else sees and and has the same question, I decided to go look up the part my son ordered and per their information an inlet gasket is not required. I am not sure if it varies by mfr or not.

    Spare Tire Delete (Convince Me)

Not sure about the 35” and impact to the Jack. But the 2.5” lift doesn’t have an impact, unless not jacking up at the axle. I guess I figure even I have to call for help at least I still have the tire to change out. We have a Smart which has different tire sizes between the front and rear...
