    2008 JKU "Argenta" Build Thread

Doing gears yourself is like buying a new welder - you get to make all sorts of new friends on your block or in your Jeepin' group :) Seriously though it's not bad. People - the most famous of all being "Jerry" (yeah, that one) - like to pretend that it's basically rocket science and that one...

    2008 JKU "Argenta" Build Thread

Doing some cleaning while the sun was shinning and the days are sunny and in the 70's. I had some mud and salt deposits around seat brackets in the Mrs. Grand Cherokee, so I dragged the Bissell outside. While I was there, I went over Charlotte's Islander seats. Every time I do it, it serves as a...

    Factory Moab Wheel Question

I just slapped my 285/70R17's on my daughter's Islander with zero lift and it clears everything just fine. Granted, I haven't flexed this thing out but they aren't that much bigger than factory 255's and they clear with plenty of room.

    2008 JKU "Argenta" Build Thread

Making some more progress in the afternoons... I got the flares pulled off to give me more access and to start cleaning the body/frame up. I will need to push the Jeep out of the garage once the motor is pulled to give it a thorough power wash, so I'll need my brakes working (see steep driveway...

    2008 JKU "Argenta" Build Thread

The 14B is in place! Everything bolted up as expected, though the trackbar is really close to the diff cover. I don't know if it's gonna clear it, or if a different trackbar shape will help, but I'll most certainly need to check clearances soon. Making my (in)famous "carboard checklists" to...

    2008 JKU "Argenta" Build Thread

The teardown has begun!!! Finally... They don't look too big on the ground or on the little dolly thing I made, but when you start wrestling around 700 lbs of beef, they certainly get heavy! Finally found where I hid this box (in another box as it were, stupid me!), so figured I'd freshen up...

    Leveling kit with stock tires

What Bilsteins did you go with? I don't see any options for 0-2" of lift in the 5100 lineup, only their blue/yellow offerings.

    Aftermarket fenders?

    2008 JKU "Argenta" Build Thread

Oddly, the steps don’t have it too bad. There’s a lot of surface scale underneath - I’m guessing the PO parked it on the grass - but the steps are fine. I’ll definitely put some Rubi rails on; they look funny with nothing there, but that will be a weekend project perhaps. The Islander only has...

    2008 JKU "Argenta" Build Thread

We dropped my daughter off at school on Friday, which means it was time to roll my Jeep into the garage and start the tear down... Of course, the day before I was about to start driving her Jeep, her exhaust broke right in front of the muffler... I went with the Pypes kit from Quadratec...

    Aftermarket fenders?

Having spent a week in Birmingham recently, they may want to kick up their inspections :ROFLMAO:  (j/k, I love my Bama boys!)

    Aftermarket fenders?

It's a balancing act for me. Should free people be able to make personal choices and generally live how they want? Absolutely. But when those choices affect other people, or have such an inherently high risk that there is too much societal "cost" should an incident occur, that's where I draw the...

    Aftermarket fenders?

The inspection stuff sometimes kills me at times, but in those moments I tend to think of the time when I saw a dude in a work truck with about 10 ratchet straps holding his flat bed to the frame - loaded with supplies - turn the corner too fast and the entire thing popped off and slide across...

    Aftermarket fenders?

When I lived in AZ, it was basically the same approach. Back here in the northeast, it’s very regionalized. My local cops know me and even the sheriffs know people like to take their stuff through the woods. Some inspection stations will give you a hard time but it’s rare. Down south in the...

    Aftermarket fenders?

You keep your factory inner fenders forever or did you go aftermarket? I'm looking at these but want to keep the factory inners. PA can be a bit of a PITA when it comes to tire coverage. No local cops or shops will give me issues, but don't want to get headaches traveling around. I think that...

2008 3.8 throttle enhancer: which is best?

I have, a handful actually... Again, it's important to clarify expectations/descriptions here. It doesn't "make it move faster", but "move the same speed with less throttle input". If that's how you would describe "move faster" then so be it. The only thing the pedal commander is doing is...

Curiously, how does adding zero torque or HP help with the hills and elevation of Colorado??

2008 3.8 throttle enhancer: which is best?

^this... I can't help but chuckle when I see comments like "game changing" and then a sentence before or after say something like "it's doesn't add hp" or "it won't change your life but it's totally worth the risk for what your right foot can do in 2-3 inches". I'm under the distinct impression...

2008 3.8 throttle enhancer: which is best?

Indeed... there aren't any gear ratios on the market to properly gear the 42RLE, with the exception of stock (or near stock) sized tires. I'm about to rebuild the take-outs from my 2008 (D30/44) and prep them for my daughter's 2010 Islander while she's at school. She'll only ever run 33"s, so...
