I actually finally installed a light. A pair of inexpensive LED's - very bright actually.

I installed these small LED lights from Amazon and rigged them up on a manual switch under the hood so that I can turn them on if I need to see better under the hood when it's dark out. Surprisingly bright.

I have not seen the problem and so far things have been good as far as I can tell...not sure what happened above. It has not recurred at least not with me in the Jeep, and there are no codes...so good for now.
