It’s a complete assembly, but is super easy to replace. I got a Mopar one as I heard the aftermarket options weren’t great. It was fairly inexpensive and available online.

Thanks. I went to the normal Jeep sites and didn’t see anything. Do you think it’s helpful to also replace the cables at the same time? Seems like cheap insurance since I’m already in there.

I’m also seeing places sell backing plates. Are those any different than OEM? There’s not much to fail there so I’m not sure why people get them.

If your cables are in bad condition, it would make sense to do so. Backing plates (they also sell "loaded" plates) are always good to replace if yours are not working, are rusted, or are otherwise compromised. When I rebuilt the D44 in my daughter's Islander, I went with a pair of Crown loaded backing plates and they've worked great so far.

Gotcha. The backing plates are fine. I suppose it permits you to skip the step on messing with the parking shoes but I figure I’ll do that when I replace the axle when I have the most room. Need to save up a few more weeks. I’m likely to go with the ones from east coast gear supply as they are fully assembled and cheaper than most places.

I don't think the ECGS backing plates fit the JK44 housing, but perhaps they've added a new lineup.

I went with these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MPVN6ZF?tag=wranglerorg-20

Sorry, I wasn’t clear. I was referring to replacing my axles with ECGS and fully replacing the shoes and hardware with the axles out.

Ahh, that makes more sense :) The backing plates are a bit of a pain in the a$$ since you have to remove the axle shafts and HOPE that you don't mess the seal up on removal, but if they're in good shape now, new cables and e-brake lever are a good idea if the shoes are in otherwise good condition.

What makes me think of just replacing the shoes and hardware with the axle out is one of the adjusters is currently upside down, lol.

I called another shop about the oil cooler and it’s about $1,300 or so. They use all OEM parts and quality oil. The first place uses Napa parts and oil. So same price but one offers to do valve covers and the other doesn’t.

Did you think about the aluminum oil cooler instead?
