Spare Tire Delete (Convince Me)

Forgot to add, carry a tire plug kit. They work great and keep you going.

Yea, I got the whole GlueTread kit that covers all sorts of plugs, patches and such and I always have my Viair compressor under the back seat.

Been without the spare for a week now, and I am really liking the look and how it cleaned up the back of the Jeep. Granted that is personal preference and I will most likely throw the spare in the back when I go on a trip or wheelin. But for now I am digging it.

Spare tire delete is first mod I did . Kenroc with brake light
Really like the clean look .
Was on a summit trail couple months ago . Was turning around at the top and pierced tire with a Socket / Phillips head .
Flattened tire pretty quick
Was able to put air in . Air would last about 8 mins than had to pump up again .
Took a couple hours to get off mountain to a cell signal
Brother brought me spare .

So yeah . Traveling without spate is a gamble . Looking at adding a spare carrier to my bumper . Don’t want to ever go thew that again .

It’s not necessarily sharp rocks if running a quality tire .
It’s objects left by Douches that can ruin a day .

My plug kit probably wouldn’t have worked . It was a pretty big hole . Socket flew out when I get to hwy . If you ever get a side wall tear patch kit won’t help .

If you do any sort of wheeling or road trips etc . May never use but if you ever need it .You will be thankful .

I would not have considered doing this without this GlueTread kit for this very reason - https://www.amazon.com/GlueTread-Complete-Off-Road-Puncture-Emergency/dp/B0D4B68F5R/?tag=jkforum-20

Until our kids got out of car seats I always had a full size truck and my Jeep. I'm 53 now and in all of these years only had one flat tire and that was back in 1988 shortly after turning 16.

I had a 2006 Ram that I bought new 12/8/06. In Aug 2021 I still had this truck. I was home repacking bearings on my boat trailer and although I have 3 or 4 jacks I was needing one more for something. Then it hit me I have the jack in my Ram truck. I had never taken that jack out and it was a bit crusty and I like to never got it out. I finish up and when it came time to put the tools away I did not put the jack back in the truck.

I had an archery tournament about 3 1/2 hrs away the next day and was leaving about 3:30AM and just didn't feel like putting it back in the truck. Slid everything in the garage to put away later.

Well you guessed it, about half way there in the absolute middle of nowhere I had a tire blow and just shred. I live in middle TN and was going to east TN and I can't remember if I'd just gotten past Monteagle Mtn or was just about to it. If you know the area it's desolate.

I get out, remove spare and that's when it hits me - no jack. I had to call AAA and they like to never found me. The guy got there and saw I had some stuff out and he looked at me like I should know how to change a tire, why would I sit there forever waiting on AAA. There were no ramps near me and the direction he was coming from he had to way overshoot me then backtrack. When I told him why I had no jack he got a chuckle out of it.

The spare has never really hurt my visibility that much, I don't have a backup cam and on one hand the spare is in a very convenient location if needed - on the other hand when I don't need it it's always in my way. Part of me wants to do a delete but I know as sure as I do I'll regret it. I already have too much on the roof to put the spare up there.

You could carry some tire plugs and a small air compressor for plugging a tire but shredding one i'll have to say that only happened to me 1 time in about 54 years.
