Dust in the wind...

So I'm ripping apart the rear tailgate hinges and replacing them with a Morryde hinge and tire support bracket...looking at this gapping vent in the middle and suddenly realizing so this is where all the dust all over everything in the back of our JK is coming from...

Question... should I just use a tailgate delete panel and cover it up? Granted I'm bolting the tire carrier on through the delete plate...

Or is there a better way?

Tailgate is dented up bad in a corner or two...tempted to pull the dents, weld in a patch panel...but I'd rather just bolt something on then spend the next month trying to match flame red for a spot behind a spare.

That is the exhauster so that your doors will shut on the first try, that's supposed to have a baffle on it to keep dust out. You can still but them or just cover it up I did just have to slam your doors shut a little harder or leave a window cracked open.

I deleted mine and leave my windows cracked. If I don't leave them cracked, I sometimes have to shut the door 2 or 3 times before it latches all the way.

Get yourself Smittybilt HD tire carrier and a set of 37's. That will hide the dents lol.

I wondered why that was there. That never occurred to me. If I recall correctly I ran my GMSR antenna cable through there. But can’t recall for sure as I looked at a couple of options.

It's called an "air vent grill.". Mine was missing all the flaps as well and filling back up with dust.
When I put on spare tire delete replaced the vent grill as well. My spare tire delete is desinged to
to be used a air vent grill. No more dust in the back and door closure a non issue .
Purchased the air vent grill on EBay. If replacing be sure to order correct one for your model year. As they did change sizing a couple times on the JK.

Mice not the Libs, Dems, Repubs Consevs, Greens and that not job French Province to the east flank of me. My Wife was born in Montreal. All Good. Our JK leaks so much do not need the rear vents,

Got the delete plate installed. Was a PIA juggling/aligning the tailgate, the support bar, the tire carrier and threading in the bolts.

Would suggest anyone doing this do two things...one...spend the money on a lightweight aluminum plate...and two...get stainless 8x1.25 studs and bolts...stuff the tailgate so you can hang and align all the pieces before tightening things down.
