What is this?

Does anyone know what this is? It was just laying in the driver's side of the engine compartment. Looks like it was attached to something at one point but cracked and fell off. It looks to me like a wiper fluid pump but it doesn't have any tubes connected to it and both the front and rear wiper fluid nozzles spray water.

No idea. Its not the vacuum pump. Can you take a couple of more shots? Where do the connectors go?

Interesting.... :)

Yes, an in and an out. If you look close you can see the writing. Here are a few more shots including where my wife found it just sitting in the engine compartment.

What is it plugged in to? I wonder if it was a water pump for something like a portable shower? I can make out Gardner Denver in there. I'm pretty confident it is NOT oem.

In the one photo there is a white sticker looks like it says “Gardner Denver Pro” can you make anything else out from the sticker?

I followed the wires to a connector where they changed color and then disappeared into a junction of wires. If this was done after market they did a very nice job of making it look original. I got a better picture of the “US” imprint and it does say “Thomas“ next to “Gardner Denver.“

Interestingly Gardener Denver is a producer of compressors and vacuum pumps though at an industry scale. They are also the parent company for a number of other companies.

My guess is that it is a either a fluid pump or a vacuum pump.

But why it’s just sitting there, unattached, and with no in or out tubing connected is a real mystery.

Because it is a jeep. People do all kinds of wacky stuff to them and tend not to remove it when they sell. I have a thing behind my glove box that has a cord to plug into the cigarette lighter. My best guess is that it was for a CB radio, but I'm not sure.

Take a wider picture of where the cable for that merges with other wiring. I have an older jeep with a different engine, but others with the 3.6 may be able to use that to see what they have in that wiring spot. It is possible that they have that but it is under other things and never gets seen, and the previous owner moved it for some reason.

Found the below from their website, not exactly the same but does seem like some sort of vacuum pump.

Here are some more shots and more info. The red and black wires are attached to connectors and become purple and black wires. The black wire is grounded to the chassis and the purple wire dives down under the brake fluid reservoir and disappears into the cab by the master cylinder. For shits and giggles I turned on the front wiper fluid motor to see if this would activate as well and it did not.
