    Loud Click

I have checked the u-joints, was my first thought too, but they are tight and if it were them I would think it would be continual and not just when putting it in reverse first thing in the morning. Never happens if I put it in drive. Probably will have to take it to the dealership to check.

    Loud Click

My 2015 JKU has a loud click when I first put it into reverse in the morning. Not sure where it is coming from, possibly transmission. Does not do it throughout the day, just first thing in the morning. Anyone else experienced this and know what it might be?

    Regearing 4:56 vs 4:88

^^ This! I bought my JK for those very reasons. I took it over to Dallas Offroad today to discuss the swap. Price went up a bit ($2400 to $2600) as they believe I will need a new rear carrier due to the miles on it. However, they gave me a 10% discount as well which kept the cost down. I...

    Regearing 4:56 vs 4:88

@pc1p, you are a wealth of information. Thank you so much. That above post is stellar! This quote is how I feel right now with 3:73 on 33's - "Imagine trying to spin 35"s and maintain highway speeds on a NAG1 running 3.73's in the axles. You'll be lugging the engine, forcing excessive...

    Regearing 4:56 vs 4:88

To your point, I expect the 4:88's will wake my JK up significantly. I am just gathering the funds to get it done and hope to do so this month. I expect that most of my driving and off-roading will be improved with this change with a slight suffer on the highway at 70.

    Regearing 4:56 vs 4:88

Yea, that was definitely one of the deciding factors when I bought my JK. I did not want all of that. My buddy bought a JL about the same time and we have both been doing typical upgrade stuff. His is 50% more difficult and costly than on my JK.

    Regearing 4:56 vs 4:88

At $10k you have to consider whether it is better to upgrade to a JL to be honest in my mind. Don't get me wrong, I bought my JK used a few years back because I did not want a JL. However, I would have loved to have the option to find a JK with an 8 speed. I do agree that it can be done for...

    Regearing 4:56 vs 4:88

Yea, I think my first step will be the gear swap as that will be helpful with either transmission. Then, if my trans started acting up I would look at a swap for an 8 speed.

    Regearing 4:56 vs 4:88

I have really contemplated an 8 speed change. I just expect that it would be so god awful expensive. In my little 2 door short bed Ram it will completely light up the tires and scratch them hitting second. When I bought the Ram I wanted a Hemi, 2 door short bed in any color other than black...

    Regearing 4:56 vs 4:88

From all my research, the automatics (which I have) came with 3:73’s and the manuals came with 4:11’s unless ordered differently.

    Regearing 4:56 vs 4:88

Great info, thank you. Definitely will go with the 4:88's I think. Interestingly, I have a 2015 Ram 2 door short bed pickup with the same 3.6 motor but the 8 speed. Man does that 8 speed really wake the 3.6 up. I am hoping this gear change will as well.

    Regearing 4:56 vs 4:88

Ok, yea thanks, we are on the same page. I did not look at 5th gear as OD. All good, thank you. So on your chart either 4:56 or 4:88's would work for either tire size in the blue performance band, but I slip into green on the 35's with 4:56. That would be in line with what I am being told, then.

    Regearing 4:56 vs 4:88

Yea, I am mainly in Texas, so pretty much not a lot of big hill country. I do travel to New Mexico to vacation and it would come in more there. Sorry to be dumb, but OD to me is overdrive and the 5 speed has no OD I am aware of - school me if it does. The gear shop is pushing 4:88 and I am sure...

    Regearing 4:56 vs 4:88

I have a 2015 Rubicon JKU that I am currently running 33" tires on and have 3:73 gears. I will, at some point, probably move up to 35" tires. This is my daily driver and I tend to drive longer distances to do any off-roading, which is generally pretty mild. Thus, I want to maintain some...

    Question on Next Improvement

The 3.73’s worked ok this weekend and we did some climbing and a bit of mild rock crawling on the 33’s. It helps that the Rubicon has lockers and a really good 4 low.
