Hi all,

I am considering a programmer to properly calibrate my Jeeps tire size with gears. It would also be great to have a programmer that changes the shift points accurately. I do not care about performance speed wise as I own a 3.8 JK. It would be great to see my trans temp also. I live in California so it needs to be 50 state legal. Thank you.

Just get JScan and a Bluetooth ODB reader.

I've never heard of a programmer having to be California legal but I'm fortunate to not live in that prison.

Seconded on the Jscan. I live in Kali and have not had a problem (yet).

I did have a issue on my TJ with some other odd thing that I never did figure out. I went for a normal smog check (it had passed the previous check) and the technician stopped the check mid inspection and asked if I had a "tune" on the computer. I did not have a tune on it (what I think happened was the emissions test were not complete because I stored the TJ with the batteries disconnected). Anyway the act of stopping the test mid stream thew a bunch of problems for me on the kali system. I went to at least 5 smog guys. No one would touch it. I ended up at a referee. Finally gave up on it and had it registered in AZ. Which by the way is MUCH cheaper, reg went from $201 per year to $117 for 5years. Insurance was cheaper too. AZ DMV even sent all my paperwork to my address in Kali. They were so kind.

interesting, typically to pass smog in SoCal with a OBDII system, you just have to have no codes and all of the smog systems checked.
To get the systems checked, you have to drive it right. If the battery is dead, or disconnected, you have to run through the drive cycle. The OBDII system checks different things at different conditions. Stuff like it has to have 1/4 to 3/4 of a tank of gas for it to check the vap control system. Toyota's are a real pain in the As for SoCal, we are going thru a cooling cycle this week. The highs are going to drop down in to the 60's. This weekend we had the very best weather anywhere. It was amazing dry, clear and in the eighties. The wind was running about 5 knts, the seas were flat. There is a lot of So Cal hate out there and gas is almost $4 a gal and you can't by a place to live for under 700k. But if you are here traffic is going to suck and the weather is going to be in the 70's.
I think i need to reg my JK in Arizona next year. How do I get that done?

Ya, hindsight says the emissions tests were not complete. No one would say it though. Not even the ref. He said I had to drive it to clear some codes and then bring it back for the rest of the checks. He was measuring distances, cross referencing OE specs, etc, it was not going to be fun . I did not have or know of the Jscan at the time. My TJ was a trailer queen with a top speed of 60. It was not a daily driver so Getting to that point was not automatic in a week or so.

Registering in AZ for me was simpler than I made it. I towed the TJ behind my F450 to the parker DMV and had it done in 30 mins. The wasted or bummer part was AZ dmv did not need to look at my TJ! I could have drove out in F150 and been back sooner. I am sure you are familiar with ca titles, where the spot to transfer has these little boxes that you have to fill out with each letter. At the AZ dmv, the guy asked if he could fill it out and I said sure, he took a thick red sharpie and wrote all across it "NOW REG IN AZ". I loved it.
