The CEL came back on a day or two after coil pack replacement .
Drove it a couple weeks and didn’t have power loss . Just at idle felt a bit rough .
Picked up an injector and brought it to a shop to get diagnosed and figured it was injector .
Shop called me back about 30 mins later . Spoke with mechanic. Did pressure test on all cylinders . Cylinder 2 was down 20 percent or pounds, can’t remember which , compared to other cylinders ?
I asked if the problem could be injector, crank or cam sensor . He said no . With 305 000 KM’s need an engine replacement ? Yes he suggested that .
I asked if he did leak down test . No . Should we do one .
Told him to button it up . We’re done here but to get me a price on an used engine .
Used engine with 50K KM
$10 000 . Like honestly . WTF was he thinking . Suggesting expensive engine replacement without leak down test or further investigation into injector . Never going back there again . Canadian Tire.
So the plan was to get 2nd opinion .
Went off roading 3 weekends in a row after the shop visit .
No issues what so ever . Could just feel it a bit at idle .
After 3 rd trip following morning start it up and CEL was off . Rough idle was gone .
Since light went off did 2 more wheeling trips in the hot Sun . Climbing to summits etc
Everything is running great .
Just got home yesterday from a 2400 KM round trip to Edmonton . That’s 1491 miles threw the Rocky Mountains without a hiccup .
Spoke to a couple people in the know . Possibly bad gas that temporarily partially plugged the injector . Eventually spitting out clog .
It’s possible by coincidence the cylinder pressure was down due to temp aligned rings . Or possibly worn a bit .
Haven’t done a pressure test again as it’s running as it should .
Moral of the story . If a mechanic tells you replacement engine.
Def get a 2nd opinion .
As far as the injector code goes . If you get that code and it’s just idling a tad rough . Drive it a week or two as it could be bad gas . If doesn’t correct itself like mine did probably just the injector .
