Hello Hive Mind!

I recently bought a 2009 Wrangler X. I Love it (2nd Wrangler in my life span). But as I've looked at different posts on the forum I still need help on trying to figure out what front floor mats to get. The carpet has been removed and I tried WeatherTech, but plastic and metal is more slippery than white wall tires on a snow day. I see that Quadratic has some floor mats but I want to find a HEAVY RUBBER mat whose weight and material will cause it to stay in place... any suggestions?

I've also read that replacing the factory speakers won't really improve the sound (the speakers now are paired with a pioneer stereo) sound absolutely awful. I don't want to put in a sub woofer, but some decent sounding speakers would be great. Any suggestions?

Lastly, I see there is some rust underneath the car on the piece of metal that protects the gas tank etc. I also noticed when I open the hood that there are some rusty screws - (but also some non rusty ones...) so not sure if the previous owner had it outside for a few years? is there something preventative I should do now? or just let it go until I need to replace a part? I want to be penny wise and not pound foolish. Thanks in advance for your help.

For the floor mats, what i would do is get some factory carpet. To me it looks better and it acts as a sound deadener. Its not too expensive either. Under 200 for molded cut carpet. This will then allow your floor mats to stick.

However, you may have been the one to remove the carpet and like the look.

Yes, this stuff is supposed to be really good. I was looking into it when i was going to buy a TJ

It's fantastic! It's like having rubber carpet on the floor, and you can easily remove it, hose it down, whatever. Had it in my TJ and loved it!

did you need extra velcro? or do you recommend it?

Yes, glad you brought that up. I used a bit of extra velcro to fasten them down better. They include enough that it works fine, but I wanted a bit more just to make it look like more of a clean and fit install.

Hi @wateretaw ,
for speakers, it is depends on your budgets.

Option 1: Chrysler Jeep Dodge 6.5inch Kicker Speaker Upgrade Set of 4 Mopar OEM
This is Mopar OEM for upgrading your speakers. Not expensive, quick install (Plug and play)
Option 2: After market speakers are also compatible with your jeep. I am not sure how will change the sound but my Jeep has big improved to upgrade to Alpine speakers. Pioneer speakers are also recommended. if you purchased after market speakers, I recommend to buy the following adapters to install them.

I had bed rug in my tj and it was awesome I loved it. I have upgraded speakers in my soundbar. previous owner was lazy and only did those. I want to upgrade the fronts soon. I have a sound ordnance powered sub in mine and it has been good I love it. I'm also putting in a pioneer DMH-1500NEX sometime this week maybe Friday or Thursday.

I saw a JK with the Bedrug carpet and it looked really nice, if I would ever need new carpet that's what i'd get.

fluid film is the go to product for rust protection. For light surface rust you can probably just spray it down to stop it from spreading. Or power bush and paint if you want to help protect and beautify the bottom. For power brushing you can get a cheap Harbor Freight grinder and wire wheel. And you will want leather work gloves and a full face grinding hood.
