what is the white corrosion under mirrors?

Buying a buddies 2011 JKU and sorting through the "Small things" together. We were talking bout this white corrosion coming from behind the mirror mount and dripping onto the hinges...specifcially on the driver side.

Reminds me of mineral sediment buildup and if so can it be cleaned with such a clearner (vinegar/light acid) or is something else at work. Also, what can be done by hind the mirror by taking it apart and fixing?

That streaking is from the mirror mounts. It's cast aluminum. If you remove the T-40 Torx bolts from the inside of the door, you'll be able to remove the mirror and see the mounts on the mirror. The mounting seal is probably gone and letting water behind the mirror is my guess.

Remove the mirror, then clean the area under the plastic cover & replace the gasket and move on to the next issue.
