Does it cost to take a Ferry trip?

Yes . Vehicle Size, Number of people & destination play a factor into cost .
The larger ferries service Victoria to Vancouver route.
Depending which ferry holds 315-340 vehicles .
There are a number of smaller islands between main land & Vancouver Island.
There are smaller single deck ferries that service those areas.
Many years ago the main ferries also carried tractor trailers . With population growth and many more using the ferry system . There are now dedicated big truck ferry /barges that handle majority of commercial traffic .
This following receipt is for single vehicle & passenger . It also includes $18 reservation .

That looks like the business to get into.

You would think , but not really . The cost and service of the ships themselves is big money . The staff is all union so it’s a very expensive operation .
When one of the main ferries goes out of operation with a service issue . It messes everting up especially during peak holiday season .
People without reservations waiting for hours to get on etc etc .
It used to be operated by the government many years ago .
It’s now owned & operated by a large corporation .
Operations Closely monitored by different gov agencies . Kinda like the airlines .
When everything operating like it should it’s a pretty effective & efficient system of getting people to & from the island . Just a very expensive operation to run .

The ferry here cost $1…and that’s a round trip ticket.

edit to say that ferry is much nicer than ours, It is just a tug/flat barge combo.

One dollar is a great price.
Looks like those ferries are river crossings ?
Here its a 90 min ride .
The main ferries have a restaurant & gift shop .
The other ferries that service the smaller islands are similar to what you posted .
Cheaper than main crossing but can for sure tell you not a dollar . Lol
