I have a 2013 JKu Sahara Automatic with 3.73 gears and the towing package. It is rated to tow 3,500 lbs. I would like to tow a 3,443 lb R-Pod 192 travel trailer. I plan on towing with empty tanks and get our supplies and groceries near our destination. I know It will be at the published limit for the vehicle. When I compared the JK to the same year Grand Cherokee with the same engine and transmission the GC is rated to tow 5,000 lbs. The GC has a slightly shorter wheelbase and slightly wider track. The GC has IRS which I believed to be weaker to the D44 in the JK.
So...
Do you have experience towing with a similar JK and a similar weight travel trailer? If so what are your experiences?
And...
Any ideas why the Grand Cherokee is rated to tow 1,500 lbs more?
Thank you fellow Jeepers.
