This one lug nut key turns fine but doesn’t come out; the head of it must be stripped from its base as I can see the base doesn’t turn. The cap isn’t plastic so I can’t chip or cut it off. Initially, I used an emergency lug nut key remover, but it just spins now. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Angst in Austin!

I've used a Pipe wrench before. I've also used an impact socket. Get 1 you have to beat on the lug. The lug will come off but it might not come back out of the socket. Both ways have worked for me.

This. Go buy an 8-point that is nice and snug. Beat it on with a hammer, then go at it with an impact wrench or breaker bar.

Swing by your local Discount or Belle Tire. They have lots of experience. All else fails, find a guy with an oxy-acetylene torch to burn it off.
