Shifting issues?

Your JK could possibly have the neutral safety switch that is in the VB, talk to your local transmission shop they probably will know about the problem. That has been the most common issue other then the shift cable bushings, have you checked them?

Did you try putting the transfercase in 4 low and try to start it?

Just off hand it doesn't sound like the key is really turning as it should. There should be some resistance as you turn it and it should drop back into the second position when released. Does that happen? Can't tell from the video. Also, what do you hear under the hood when you turn the key to the start position? If the key switch is working, you should hear clicks (relays) as electricity is directed toward the stater. The obvious failure points are the switch, the solenoid, the starter motor, the starter motor itself, the wires that connect them and the connections, and maybe a fuse too. From under the hood, can you hear the solenoid click, does the starter motor turn or make any noise at all. For an automatic there are also the connections at Park and Neutral that allow the vehicle to start.

I'm with @BLACKJKU . Voting neutral safety switch as well. Hasn't happened on my Jk but the exact same thing in your video happened on my Wj.

Sure as shit, Googled "Jeep JK neutral safety switch" and got plenty of results. Looks like another common Crpsler failure point. These guys made a 'how to' video on replacing it. Hope you solve the issue:

That's only on the 07-11's with a 42RLE transmission, which has a range sensor. The 12+ have a different auto transmission and there doesn't seem to be much if any info out there on that one.

Oh crap, didn't watch the video so wasn't aware it was the early JK. They didn't specify it in the description either.

Oh well. Learned something new. Thanks for the heads up!

Yep, and there's little to nothing out there on replacing it for the NAG1 tranny.
