I have a Sony after market radio that I installed with crutchfield wire harness that came with the unit. It got wet several times along the way and started suddenly powering off on its on and when I disconnect the negative terminal cable on the battery and reconnect it will work fine for a period of time and then suddenly power off again. It wont come back on until I disconnect and reconnect the battery. Could this be damage to the radio from being wet or could it be an electrical problem on the jeep that could be fixed? How can I troubleshoot this?

It got wet several times

So this essentially means everything around it all got wet, correct? I wouldn't rule out a wire harness issue, however, my guess would be that you have some corrosion on the head unit circuit board. It's tripping a circuit and shutting off and then resets when you remove power.

Yes, everything got wet. there was a leak right above the rearview mirror and water just poured down on the radio. I'm going to take the radio out and check the harness and make sure there is no rust or corrosion but i agree, it sounds like I just need to replace the head unit. I also think that my throttle body sensor is bad and I'm going to replace that as well. I have the issue where the thunderbolt of death appears and the accelerator goes limp. Gonna do both things and see what happens.
