Hey everyone,

I'm looking into getting a used Jeep Renegade but have heard that some model years have reliability issues.

I want something that won’t give me constant headaches with major repairs.

Are there specific years I should avoid due to transmission problems, electrical issues, or any other common failures?

Also, if certain years are more reliable, I’d love to hear recommendations! Planning to use it as a daily driver with some light off-roading.

Would appreciate any insights from current or past owners.

From what I’ve seen and heard in various forums, the 2015 and 2016 model years are often flagged for having a variety of issues, particularly with transmission problems and some electrical gremlins. Many users have reported these models experiencing rough shifting and, in some cases, complete transmission failure — definitely things to steer clear of if you're looking for reliability.

On the other hand, the 2018 model and later years have generally shown improved reliability. Jeep made some updates and fixes based on the feedback from earlier models, so you'll likely find those to be better options.

That said, it’s always wise to check the service history of any used Jeep you’re considering and, if possible, get a pre-purchase inspection. Make sure to look for any signs of previous issues or recalls, and check if those repairs were completed.

Good luck with your search!
