4 wheel parts quoted me $3,470 to regear from 3.21 to 4.56. Both front and rear axle. This is the only place I can find to do the work near Indianapolis. Isn’t this extremely overpriced? Does anyone know if anyone else does this in Indiana? Thanks so much for the help!

Isn't there some 4x4 clubs around Indy, someone there would know who to go to for that. Try A&A transmission in Camby, Matt Tofflemoyer 260 492-8375 in Ft Wayne In.

I paid a little over $600 for the gears and front carrier. I then paid $900 for the install. Any Central NJ Jeeps looking for re-gearing, give In-Gear Transmission and Differentials a call. They are located in Manasquan NJ.

Wow. Yes, overpriced. Did they give a breakdown?
Yes. Here is the breakdown.
4.56 gear package- 649.99
Spicer carrier- 218.00
Inner axle seal (2)- 22.21
Bearings (2)- 107.32
Outer axle seal (2)- 135.98
Front r&p install- 516.80
Labor to install axle seals- 136.00
Rear ring and pinion install- 584.80
Warranty 5yr/60k mile- 399.99
Lubes/cleaners/hardware- 99.99
Axle bearing rear each- 272.00
Super chips flash cal- 210.95

That’s what I was thinking. Shouldn’t the parts already have a warranty. For $400 dollars I’d rather take my chances and pay for the labor if parts need replaced under warranty.

If they are a good business with people who can do good work you shouldn't need to pay for a extended warranty.

Just for reference on how much they are overcharging.... here is a inner axle seal... $5 bucks each. So they are effectively doubling everything in some way or another.

The warranty really is the money maker here. I didn't think about carrier cost or programmer either. But yeah, parts are high. I would ask for a better price and personally wouldn't go for the warranty.

A $30 app and quality OBD dongle will likely do more than what the flashcal will do.

I would think the parts would be warranted by the Manufacture of the parts, I think the Warranty is for just the labor. My guess is they don't pay good money for good Mechanics and thus the Warranty for Labor.

I had mine done today, 3.21 to 4.56, for $1820.00. I’m in Michigan.

There ya go!
Indianapolis to Lake Orion area is like a 5 hour-drive. You could drive up, get the work done, stay over in a hotel and drive home for less than what the local guy wants to charge you.

And a recommended shop quoted me about the same- around $2k to go from a 3.73 to 4.56.
