Started hearing this on my new-to-me ‘07 JK and after reading all the threads about lifter tick I’d like to know if I have it:
Mine has headers…
So you think that noise is exhaust rather than lifters?Mine had cheap shorty headers when I bought it and they were bad also so I put Long Tubes on.

Not quite 100,000.It would probably easier to find out if it's a exhaust leak, should see some black streaks.
How many miles on it?
Not quite 100,000.
Did u check for burnt plug wire? Usually see a spark in the dark. Kinda sounds like spark knock
No, and it’s getting dark right now so I’ll check that next.Did u check for burnt plug wire? Usually see a spark in the dark. Kinda sounds like spark knock
Yea didn't think about that, was a plug wire heat shield used? I put them on mine just to be safe.
The previous owner put the headers on, and no he didn’t. I have plug booties on order but maybe I should replace all the wires as well…Yea didn't think about that, was a plug wire heat shield used? I put them on mine just to be safe.
No sparks, at least not visible ones. No, and it’s getting dark right now so I’ll check that next.
BigAl, please explain “a taste of atf” ? What exactly do you do?May have a lifter sticking occasionally on ya. I give my 07 a taste of atf right before I change oil. The detergent helps keep ‘em clean. I also switched to Royal Purple 5w30 which really quietened it down. It’s got 94k on her right now. As u mentioned may want to change wires for peace of mind. Good luck and welcome to the forum for W.Va. Keep us updated please
Thanks - I’ll try that with the next oil change; so much to do I wish the weather was better right now. Do you use a Mopar oil filter or a premium aftermarket one?May have a lifter sticking occasionally on ya. I give my 07 a taste of atf right before I change oil. The detergent helps keep ‘em clean.
