How to cut 10 hours from lifter / rocker replacement

This mechanic shows a detailed method of replacing the lifters and rocker arms. That will cut about 10hrs from the procedure.

I may show this to my mechanic and see if he's willing to do it this way. It could cut the cost of the repair substantially.

But there's no reason the average guy couldn't do this in his own garage.


 
I can't see how that saves more than 20 minutes. Removing the cam phasers by the OCV bolts and marking the timing chain for reinstallation doesn't take much time. I cringed whenever that pry bar touched the camshafts or valve train components. If you find a mechanic that'll do that I recommending finding another mechanic. That kind of "hack" is best for non professionals.

yeah man the only real shortcut is having everything laid out before you start. i pulled my heads on my hemi build and honestly just taking time to organize all your bolts and clips saves so much frustration. also get a good lift and some jack stands so you're not crawling around like crazy. if you're doing both sides maybe just pull the whole head instead of fighting it one side at a time. thats what i did and knocked out the job way faster
