how many transponder keys are programmed to my JK?

Hi y'all. been away from jeeps for 20 years but just bought '13jk for my teenage son and realized how much I missed my old jeeps. This is my first post here!

I purchased some aftermarket trandsponder keys and have only been able to get one to work. The key that is NOT working, I have programmed using the 2 key method and I have also used ODB Jscan.
  • The jscan programming method shows the key is programmed succuessfully, but the jeep only runs a a few seconds, as if the key is not programmed.

  • The 2 key method results in the dashboard security light doing a short rapid flash.
I am the 3rd owner of this vehicle and do now know how many keys have been programmed to this jeep previously, but am suspecting I may have hit the limit? (just guessing). Is there way to see how many keys were programmed? And if so, a way to remove some of them??

Thanks in advance

I’d like that answer too. I am not having an issue but I reprogrammed the same key three times as the starting function worked, but non of the buttons work, lock / unlock / remote start and then remembered “hey I can only program so many keys” and stopped. Not sure if its number of keys or number of times trying to program a key. So far the key works to start it, and will turn the alarm off once it is inserted in the ignition (if locked with the other key). Jscan issued an update which included “key programming” but haven’t tried it again due to the number of keys that can be programmed. I have a second key and the important functions work so I am good for now.

Total of 8 keys can be programmed before the brain has to be replaced (or cleared?)...
-Not certain what has to be done in this scenario on the JK, but our Mercedes would only allow 8 and then the module had to be replaced.
I just went through programming 2 new flip keys to my NTM 2015 Rubicon.
I used the JSCAN option as it only had 1 key when I bought it.

I didn't see anywhere in the software that referenced the # of keys programmed, or how many slots remained.

That is what I heard / read 8 keys, but not sure how remove or verify how many I am at. Also if programming the same key twice since I didn’t think I did right the first time does that mean two slots are taken or just one?

It is 8 keys per Jeep. You have to watch out because some eBayers will use already programmed transponders, put on a new blade and case and sell it as new. Once a transponder is programmed it cannot be used again on another vehicle. Even though Jscan shows it is programmed, it will never work if previously programmed.
