How far can I drive with a mismatched tire and should I put it on the front or rear?

I was going to replace my winter tires (Blizzaks) next season. I was going to keep these ones one for about two more months and then throw them out and buy a new set in the fall. Now I've got a flat. It may not be repairable (screw at the very edge of the tread block.) My spare is a brand new summer tire (KO2) and so there is a size difference. Unfortunately, I've been storing the remainder of my summer tires at a location that is about 100 miles away.

Assuming the winter tire can't be repaired, I have two options.
1) Buy an entire set of new winter tires today (I don't really feel like spending the money but it could be done.)
2) Drive 100 miles with the summer tire on one wheel to go retrieve the remainder of my summer tires.

Thoughts?

Why not go get the summer tires in a different vehicle?

Regardless, if you have to temporarily run a different sized tire, it should be on the front and you should stay in 2WD.

Repair it. Stick a plug or two in it and run the 2 months. My wife ran a full year with 7 plugs in one tire on her expedition (accumulative of course). 3 on the sidewall.

Agree. Plug it and run it. If it's in the tread block and vertical it should be repairable. FYI - Most tire shops will repair for free.
