How do I remove the rear fender flare?

Cracked a rear fender flare and need to repair. The repair is no problem, BUT is it true that you just rip them off after removing inner fender.

Don't want to break something.

Cracked a rear fender flare and need to repair. The repair is no problem, BUT is it true that you just rip them off after removing inner fender.

Don't want to break something.

Technically there is a proper way to remove it, but they rip off on the trails at all time. The little clips should be the weak point.

For ease of mind I would remove the clips.
