Just re-geared to 4.88 from 3.21. Just hit 1100 miles on new gears. On my way to work this morning i developed a very high pitch whine coming from the rear end. I have not taken it off road and I did the proper break in cycle on the gears. I was fixing to do my second fluid change this weekend. I am not hearing anything clunking around like a broken piece of metal. Any ideas?

First before driving it much more check the oil level, then take it to did the gears for you have them check it.

The high pitched whine is because the gears are improperly aligned.

That said, I had a professionally rebuilt differential fail after a couple thousand miles when a pinion bearing failed. It was a new Timkin made in China.
