Hey guys, I am really stumped and in need of some help here. I am borrowing, considering buying a coworkers 2010 RHD Wrangler, but it has a few issues I can't seem to get fixed.

I'll start with what he tells me. Transmission was slipping out of gear while on mail route, would pull away if put into neutral and back into drive, but eventually just stopped pulling. He had the transmission replaced with a used one at the dealership, but after a couple days driving, it was stuck in limp mode. Don't know the codes from that time; dealer replaced the used transmission with another used transmission. Same thing happened again. Dealership replaced it AGAIN-now on fourth transmission over the course of a couple weeks worth of being driven since the first went out. Limp mode again. I don't know if the codes were the same each time, but I do know it has been back in limp mode after each repair. He took it back, they "cleaned and inspected the wire harness and replaced part of it"-they may have charged him for doing so, but they definitely did not do this part. He gets it back, drives it for part of his route and it goes back into limp mode, gets towed to his house, and sits there for a year untouched.

So here's where my part begins. I ask him if he wants to sell it cheap, I'm cool with a project as long as there's not much risk, and at the price he's asking, there's not much risk unless I sink as much into it as he did. So I trailer it home, battery completely dead, won't even jump start-swapped my trucks battery into it to get it onto the trailer. Get it home, it runs okay for sitting a year, take it to get cleaned, get some gas in, and its already in limp mode at this point again. Take it to have codes read at autozone.
P0869 - Generic - Transmission Line Pressure Too High
P1745 - Manufacturer - Transmission Line Pressure Too High for Too Long
P0455-Evap Leak(Gross-No Flow)
P0456-Evap Leak(small)

I unplugged all wires going into the transmission, cleaned and inspected the wire harness, the one the dealership had charged him for doing and didn't do. It was very grimy and the sheathing was mangled. I unwrapped the wires from the o2 sensor down, everything I could reach from underneath, found three places where wires were frayed: the Green/Purple line going into the input sensor on the transmission, and two spots where the wire harness running above the driveshaft had fallen onto it and rubbed through the Black wire in that loom. I cleaned and rewrapped all the wiring, removed the TIPM for a visual inspection, reconnected everything, removed and reseated PCM plugs, also made sure all EVAP fittings i came across were snug while I was down there. I can drive in reverse with no problem, but in drive it will go back into limp mode the moment it should be shifting to 3rd. I can drive without going into limp mode at all if I put the gear selector to 2, but that's essentially the same as being in limp mode, just doesn't disable my a/c and lets me go between 1st and 2nd rather than just being in 2nd only with limp mode.

The only code that shows with the self DTC check in the Jeep is the P1745 now, and only when it is in limp mode. Sometimes it will not show a code at all on the DTC self-check. I purchased a cheap OBD scanner so I can scan it myself. The only present fault is P1745, but P0869, P0882, P0455, and P0456 are showing when reading codes, not sure if those are previous codes there for reference, they are not listed as being a fault for the check engine light
being on. I can clear codes and be out of limp mode, but it goes right back the moment it should go into 3rd.

I'm wondering if I may have fixed the issue with the wiring, but am in need of a PCM reset to clear the P1745 code and stop going into limp mode. The P1745 code is supposed to have a set condition of either 2000 miles or 1000 2-3 upshifts while in an open loop condition, but is setting on the very first 2-3 upshift after clearing the check engine light, so I'm thinking its staying stuck in the background and not really clearing out when I try to clear it. I am not longer having a check engine light for P0869, P0455, or P0456 as actual faults stored, and never had the cel come on for P0882 in the time since I picked it up.

Does anybody know how I can get rid of P1745? Will I need to have the PCM reset by a shop with a more advanced diagnostic tool to fully delete the code to know for sure whether fixing those wires has corrected the problem? Is there a way I can delete the code myself? Disconnecting the battery and connecting the leads together didn't do it. I really want to get this thing going without going to a shop until I absolutely need to.

Having used a RHD for mail delivery in the past, they certainly made life easier and are how I got into jeeps in the first place.

One thing to make you aware of is that in 2012 Jeep moved to a different engine and transmission. There were some interior changes in 2011, so what you have is essentially the same as 2007 - 2010, with the 2011 having the same engine but updated interior electronics, and perhaps other electronics.

Here is our how-to for computer reset.

Here is a vid that you probably have seen, but some potentially helpful comments below it.

As time goes on, update the post so that others that encounter this problem have a place to find the solution in the future.

Update: P0869 code is still occurring. I can drive with the gear selector in 2 for about 15-20 minutes before it throws the p0869 code, whereas the p1745 code sets the moment it is in drive and is supposed to upshift to 3rd. It has been rainy the past few days so I haven't gotten a chance to look over it much. I'm hoping for some dry weather soon so I can pull the wire harness out again and properly clean and inspect all connections, last time I only inspected wires. I've also seen where people are having shorts further up the harness between the engine and firewall, so I may be attempting to just pull the whole harness out when I get the chance.

The method mentioned in the comment above does not reset hard faults stored in the computer, just clears the CEL, the p1745 remains in the PCM memory when codes are cleared and is triggered at the next 2-3 upshift rather than having to meet the set conditions outlined in the FSM. The dealership said they can reflash the PCM which will completely clear all stored codes at the cost of $130-170, but if the issue is not fixed, it will still throw the P0869 code and eventually throw P1745 once the set conditions have been met again. This would allow me to drive the Jeep without it being in limp mode for about 1000-2000 miles until p1745 triggers again, and I will be able to check in that time if P0869 is coming back to know whether the original issue has been fixed. I'm wanting to wait until I have gotten the chance to at least pull out the whole wire harness, clean, inspect, repair, and reinstall it before going that route because wiring is the most upfront step in this process. If that does not fix it, I will see if the shop that replaced the transmission will cover the replacement of the EPC solenoid which seems to be the route cause of the high pressure codes from my research. I really wish I knew if the problem the previous owner was having was this same code each time, or if he had different problems with the other transmissions. I'm getting this at a very low price, so I'm not afraid to sink a bit into it because I know I can get my investment back out of it if all else fails.

Ugg.. I feel ya. Seems like half the work I do on my jeep is related to what the previous owners did.
