Engine and cats temps

2008 jk,
So, I received my Icar pro OBD and connected to jscan. My engine temps went from 198 F when driving and 212 F sitting at idle. I believe those are good numbers?

On the other hand, JScan was reading 1200 + F on the cats ? Is this normal?

I have another post where I mentioned that the engine smells hot after I have driven it?

Are these temp numbers normal ?

Engine temps are totally normal. Normal operating temps for a cat are 500-800F, and up to 1200F under load. They have to be super hot, since their job is to burn off stuff that won't burn off in the combustion chamber. The internals of a cat won't be damaged by anything less than about 2000F.

My readings of 1200 were just normal street driving? Also there are no codes popping up either on the dash or the JScan?

Yes, your numbers are normal. Have you considered the possibility that the problem may be your nose, and not the vehicle?
