So….the ECT just broke off on my son’s 2008 Jeep Jk!

I’m stepping away, as I’m about to lose my cool here. A simple sensor job just turned into a couple days of work most likely.

Anyone see this??

If you can Post a picture maybe someone can give you a suggestion on how to remove it.

Mind is racing here, it was so stuck the dam thing broke off, and I didn’t think I was turning that hard.

So it’s obviously frozen in there hard, I can only think it’s going to be crazy hard to get out now.

Apologies, I thought I got pics on must have hit save before they finished. They are on there now.

Get some PB Blaster and soak it good, then drill a hole into the center of the sensor and use a easyout to try and get it out. May have to put a little heat on it also on the metal area around the sensor.

That's my suggestion, maybe someone else will have a better one. Start out small with it because it could just shave it out until there is enough solid material for it to grab on. This type is the best to use, https://www.harborfreight.com/multi...tY83V6FzP2-E-x-gpKsnLJR0G6aoyO2oaAnzYEALw_wcB

I walked (and cussed), my process to clear the head and think on these without making it worse.

I came to the same, gonna soak penetrant on it , clean the area to make sure it can get down there, and clean out the wiring, measure for an easy out, and go get one.

Thanks for the link

Yea sometimes you have to stop and stand back, cool off then think about it.

When your drilling it go slow and use a vacuum cleaner to try and catch as much pieces as possible.

It looks like it, dammit. That mean what??? Need to replace that whole manifold?

My guess they either tightened the sensor down to tight and cracked it or it was cracked and they tightened it super tight to quit leaking when installing it.

I would just get some paste and coat the threads and then don't tighten it real tight to make the cracks spread. I use this stuff alot and works good.

So I did what you said, all good, appreciate it.

There’s a bigger problem. This has been an overheating problem for a while. I think getting this ECT exposed it worse

Could be the cooling fan not going into high speed or the T-stat.

The torque spec for the thermostat housing is 106 in-lbs. I do not have one for the ECT but I'd go with that.
The 3.8L has a two piece intake manifold. You're going to need to replace the lower piece, sadly.
