Mechanic said my Ecm was bad. Getting ready to send it off to be reprogrammed. My question is do I need to trace down what caused the Ecm to go bad and fix that problem first? If i don't and I put the repaired ECM back on if the problem was a no found wil it not happen again immediately? Please help. Single female who loves her jeep and is on a fixed income. She has been down for 2 months now.

Did you have any CEL's before it went down? If the ECM is bad it'll probably need rebuilt not reprogrammed.

What was the Jeep doing or not doing that the mechanic said it needed rebuilt? Maybe get a 2nd opinion.

What are CELLS? It is running ruff, skipping. Replaced coil pack, plugs, wires, battery, crank shaft sensor, clean the cad. Converter. 2 mechani s and 3 code scanner at auto parts store saying its the Ecm. 2 months before it started running so bad while I was driving all the gouges went crazy, the alarm went off she cut off in the middle of the rd I live on. I drifted off to the side had to sit about 5 minutes was able to crank her and get home. She drive great until about 2 months ago. But the red blinking light for the security will not go off I've tried everything. I've been looking around companies to send the computer to. They will test it and repair it if they are able to. Thank you if u have any suggestions im open to them

CEL = check engine light, the light that looks like an engine. If you plug in a scanner to the OBDII port it will give you codes. This assumes the CEL light is on.

Sometimes the red security light means the battery in your key FOB is bad.

Yes, it is on and blinking. Throwing codes for multiple misfiring. That's why I changed out the coil pack, plugs, and wires.

Did you use OEM parts, sometimes you have to do a ECM reset by disconnecting the battery cables for a little bit.
