Door wiring harness

I am the new owner of a 2015 willys. I've taken the doors off several times now without any issues. The last time I tried the vehicle half of the wiring harness came loose from the vehicle and now when I put it back together, it hangs down by the clutch (causing the wife to complain). Using a mirror and flashlight I see that there is a small black clip that appears to hold the connector stationary. Before I get in there and break something, does anyone have any pointers about reassembling it?

I have a 2015 Sahara and I believe there is a hole behind the OBD connector on the kick panel the connector presses in to.

Thanks. The back of my connector has a channel in it and there is a narrow black clip attached to the vehicle which appears to fit into the channel. I cannot get it to reattach. I think that I may have to detach the clip, insert into channel and then reattach to the vehicle. Which is why I am looking for any guidance. The narrow black clip appears to attach to the vehicle with a push pin type attachment but I am having a hell of a time trying to get it to release.
