Can I lower my JK and add better shocks?

Thank you for your reply : Badically we keep a car up in Noosa at our holiday house and my three sons daughter in laws use the car! 99% of the time it’s on the road mainly not off road when we holiday apart from the odd trip to Fraser Island! It’s a shared vehicle for 4 families so trying to eliminate the wallowing around corners etc and Noosa Sunshine Coast seems thats all there is; Had a Pajero for 9 years here and the kids and my 6 grandkids wanted a funky looking beach car which has awesome looks over your horrible Toyota Prados type 4x4. The kids all love the look !
Battle wagon they call it Nonno;
I know i was going to get a reaction but that’s the way it is when you have families!
Trust you understand! Thanks for your response ! Lou

Well technically speaking, lowering a vehicle is never going to be better for handing, as you're going to lose up-travel.

However, you can indeed lower a vehicle and still have it ride reasonably nice with a good set of shocks and springs. The issue I see is that I don't know of a single company who makes lowering shocks for Jeeps. Certainly none of the bigger and more reputable companies do. I suppose you could put it on airbags :ROFLMAO:

I have to discourage you to buy a JK Wrangler. Go for the JL for they deserve to be just on pavements with refined suspension good for kids. But why wrangler? Can you go for a van? Don't buy a JK please :(

Sorry Lou, I looked at the title of your post, didn't realized you already have a JK brother.
So go and check the "JK How-to Guides" for Jeep Wrangler JKs and scan through all of those write-ups.
If you read them all, you might pick a little bit of tricks here and there until you get the idea.

I did this with my 5.9 Grand.... I loved it with a tighter suspension. Ignore the nay sayers.
Kit was from Eibach.

Reduced travel is not an issue since on the street there is zero need to articulate. As a lowered street racing JK you'll want much less travel. Not sure you'll find an all in kit like they sold for the Grand but I look forward to what you end up doing.

Contact Eibach.... they might have ideas, I'm sure there is a market for a Mustang crushing JK/JL.

I’m happy not to lower the car but when it handles like a drunken goat and floats like a punt in Port Phillip Bay i cant say i feel comfortable fighting g with the steering and the wallowing ! Too dangerous !
Maybe i’m expecting to much from a car that’s basically war design !
I had an 84 Rangie that used to have a mind of its own and old man emu shocks and torsion bars front and back fixed the problem ! Handled like Brokies .05 !
That’s what i want and i’m going to keep going with it untill i get it !
Y tube video of a Yankee guy tells me it’s a recalibration of the steering box computer whatever that means !
When i rang Crucks in Noosaville they were clueless ! Met a lady at a Servo in noosa junction she told me that they’ve had 3 Wrangers and same problem and this guy in Sugar Road and Tyres in Maroochydore knows how to fix the problem !
So it’s booked in for am Monday !
See how we go !
thanks for you support and feed back
Lous

OP. My JK rides pretty much like a normal car. Has you suspension been modified. Is the air pressure right and equal on all wheels. Are the tires the original size. Are the sway bars intact?

Very good point.

My JK rides the same. So good in fact that I think it rides just like any other new "SUV" out there. Definitely a huge improvement over the TJ in terms of ride quality.

Thanks guys for your input , lots of info especially from billbob . I don’t necessarily want to lower it to that extent but obviously anything can be done :
Tomorrow it’s going in for a medical suspension tyre steering check up see what eventuates from a lady as i mentioned who’s husband has owned three Jeep W ;
But the Eibach suspension kit impressed me i just need to know the right dealer to go to , to get the right advice and get the work done if i have to! As i said i don’t want a car that’s 3 inches above the ground like my Lotus Exige S that scrapes every pebble i just want a car the looks amazing and that my daughter in laws and my 70 year old wife can drive without worrying which side of the road the car is the minute they shift their eyes off the steering ! Not good at all ! Trust you 4 x 4 JK enthusiasts understand .
Thanks Lous
