Automatic transmission downshift issues

My buddy just called me, his 2012 JK automatic does not downshift when he hits the gas pedal. It only downshifts when he lets off the gas. Is there a solenoid or linkage as likely culprit? TIA.

I just looked at it, fluid level is fine, replaced last year as well. It stays in gear until high rpms and does not upshift until you let off the gas. This just started and at the same time it now has a squeal similar to a belt squeal while this is going on. Any takers?

Mystery solved. The hood insulation was sagging and blocking the intake which made the squeal sound and for whatever reason made it not shift. Fixed the insulation and it shifts fine.

Post no 6 in this link shows the fix for the insulation problem, seems to be common issue on some years.
