Are you looking at the front or rear axles on a Sport, or comparing a Rubicon to a Sport, or is there some other "sport" you have in mind? The Rubicon has 44s front and rear, but they aren't interchangeable. For instance, the front differential housing is off center on the driver's side (left of center in left-hand drive vehicles), while the back axle has the differential housing centered. You can certainly buy 44 for a Wrangler Sport. On my Rubicon, front and back track widths are the same, for whatever that is worth.
No, if I took front and back axles from the sport jk and laid them next to Dana 44 rubicon jk axles are the rubicon wider than the ones I took off the sport

The axles should be the same, so the rear 44 on the Sport will be the same as the rear on the Rubicon. The front axles are Dana 30s on the Sport series, and 44s on the Rubicon. The Wrangler has base specifications including track width. On the 2016 series of Wranglers (all trims) the track width is 61.9 inches front and back. So the Sport and Rubicon have identical wheel to wheel spans. You don't mention which year you are actually interested in, so I looked my year.
The Rubicon Axles are a direct bolt in. But the Rear 44 are not the same either. A Rubicon 44 has 32 splines and different length shafts. The Sport 44 has 30 splines and same length shafts. WMS is the same between the two.
