When I bought my Jeep a few years ago, shifting into and out of 4wd would sometimes cause the light to flicker, but not stay on. And it was random flickering.
Since January of this year, it is a nearly constant glow and will only randomly flicker after driving for about 10-15mins.
The constant glow began after a stupid and improper violent shift into 4L (it was a panic situation on ice). I also destroyed the transfer case switch that day, naturally. Got that replaced.
The light stayed off for a while, until I needed to use 4wd again. I shifted properly, utilized both settings with no issues, shifted back into 2wd and the light has been on since.
I've checked the bushings on both ends of the cable and they are seemingly intact and they were in their proper places.
Its really tight up in there to do any wiring diags on my own. I suppose I could order a new switch and install it and see if that makes a difference, but I'm able to use 4wd properly.
One thing to note, which I'm just plain unsure about if related, my automatic transmission has been shifting funny, like 3500-4000 RPM between shifts, or will stay at really low RPMs in 4th gear and feel like it will stall. I have previously had torque converter codes come and clear and not return, so again, I'm not sure if its a separate issue or not.
Any insight?
