2017 JK Radio into a 2012 JK

Basic radio is from a 2012 Sahara JK, touch screen is from a 2017 JK. Can I just swap the touch screen in place of the basic radio? The 2012 has unconnect. Will it just plug in and all will work? I know have to get a code from dealer for the touchscreen.

My 2014 JKU starts misfiring, stalls and sometimes starts vibrating very badly at 70+ mph if I tune it to stations like Yacht Rock, The Blend, Coffee Shop, etc....

I have a feeling its way more complex than just swapping. I spoke with a shop that deals with Jeep wrangler entertainment systems (stereo / audio) and the way it was explained to me, to get the full use out of a "new" OE head unit, it takes a bit more tech than just a simple swap, due to Uconnect and the like.

The 2012 already has unconnect. The only thing she doesnt have is GPS. I was told it works through the existing electronics in the Jeep. But I get different opinions. Someone has to have done the swap.

As much as I despise dealerships, I'd call and play the roll of Jeep owner considering a radio upgrade to something newer factory, and see what they say.

Or find a fantastic installer, like the location near me. Unlike you, I dont have Uconnect in my 2013 and it wasn't practical cost-wise to add to my system. Im having an aftermarket bluetooth device added, which is nowhere near the cost I was quoted for OE.

The nav on the JKU is a CD-ROM based and I don't know where that lives within the system. But I will tell you that unless you want to pay a couple hundies every 4-5 years to keep the nav system current, it's totally not worth it.

I seem to remember that there is some security involved. I believe that there is a code you need to enter to unlock the head unit. Where that code comes from I am unsure. I'm in agreement with the idea of calling a dealer with a hypothetical.

Did it workout? I have the same question/application. I'm installing the 2017 Ram 5.7 and 8 speed. I also purchased the entire 2017 Ram 1500 sport and want to upgrade the radio as well.
