2010 JK automatic transmission shifter problem

I have my friends 2010 JK with an auto trans. I have a feeling the shifter is bad.
First thing I notice is the key buzzer goes off with the door open and no key in the ignition. The shift bracket on the trans is moving with the shifter, however, it will not start in park nor neutral. It also will not engage park. I have to put wheel chocks to keep it from rolling.
The shifter is pricey so I was looking for some points of view before purchasing a new shifter assy.

There are bushings on both ends of the shift cable that will go bad and cause issues.

Replaced both bushings. Still had not worked. When I manually pull the cable at the interior shifter, the lights on the dash move to reflect the current gear but when I put it in park or neutral it still will not start nor engage in park. It acts like it’s in neutral and rolls still. She mentioned she heard a weird noise when she was driving it.

Try putting the transfercase in low and see if it will start.
